Live to Rescue, Ladakh is the only active animal shelter in Leh. It was started in 2014 under the patronage of His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa. Live to Rescue provides animal care facilities at their shelter in Nang village while Animal Husbandry Department and the Municipal Committee provides health services and transportation and other logistical support respectively. These agencies have worked tirelessly for the last six years to sterilise dogs and treat sick and injured dogs and other abandoned animals.
Under the kind guidance and support of Kyabje Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche who is very compassionate and an animal lover himself, Live to Rescue provides humane treatment to homeless dogs and other animals and a possibility to find a home.
Live to Rescue is the most effective animal protection organization in Ladakh. It aspires to reduce the suffering of animals and foster a harmonious relationships between animals and people of the region and world at large in the face of rapid development and tourism.
